WSR is definitely quirky. I learned it must be activated before launching Word. Next, I found it unresponsive when I tried to get it started ('start listening'). What I discovered is that at startup, it seems to do a lot of preliminary work (what I don't know), but it often takes a minute or two to actually toggle to 'Listening'. After the initial 'start listening' command (make sure you see the volume indicator move), go get a drink (of water) and give it some time to rev up. Once the 'Listening' text appears, it is operational.

Footnote:
WSR is not a human brain. It tries to build context from documents you have written, but often, it just seems to use a best guess. If you speak in well enunciated phrases instead of couplets, it works much better. While it has limited learning abilities, you really need to adapt to it - not expect the converse. Some words are necessary to correct manually (synonyms: hole, whole).
Download and install Live Talk - Free Text and Video Chat in PC and you can install Live Talk - Free Text and Video Chat 8.2 in your Windows PC and Mac OS. Live Talk - Free Text and Video Chat is developed by online Girls Chat and listed under DATING. Looking for a speech to text program for letters, emails and for voice control of Mac. Dragon Naturally Speaking seems to be well regarded and versatile. Too bad it's for PC. It's publisher, Nuance, also has a Mac app called Dragon Dictate. I'm wondering how this compares to Dragon Naturally Speaking in terms of accuracy and ease of use.
While it varies by voice, 175 words per minute is roughly a “normal” rate of speech. Raise that number to make your Mac talk faster, lower it to bring things to a crawl. Download this app from Microsoft Store for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 10 Team (Surface Hub), HoloLens, Xbox One. See screenshots, read the latest customer reviews, and compare ratings for Text to Speech TTS.
I am trying to use it to write a book, and at the moment, the jury is out. I type fast, but WSR is faster and doesn't make the spelling mistakes I do, but I seldom dictate more than 2-3 sentences without an error. Maybe this will get better. What is really needed is a corrections window that makes fixing errors much faster. When I flag an error, it would also be nice to hear what I said. It is not always obvious.
Hope this helps,
DGR
Microsoft Office For Mac
One other problem I had is clicking on the WSR icon and nothing appears to happen. I think there is a thread still running from the last time you launched it, and it won't restart. (Shades of DOS) restart your system to clear out orphaned threads. (couldn't find it in the task manager) This worked for me. This program is not actively supported, so if you can't tolerate the bugs, you need to switch to something like Dragon.

Incidentally, I bought the WSRTookkit. It has a nice interface and some useful functionality.
